RIMC The Rashtriya Indian Military College is an Inter Services Institute and a Category A establishment of the Ministry of Defense alongside institutions like National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla, Officers' Training Academy, Chennai, and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. RMS Rashtriya Military schools were eastablished as King George’s Royal Indian Military schools to take care of the education of the sons of defence personnel. SAINIK SCHOOL The Sainik Schools Society is an organization under the Ministry of Defence. The Chief Executive Body of the Sainik Schools Society is a Board of Governors functioning under the Chairmanship of the Defence Minister. For exercising closer control and supervision over the affairs of Sainik Schools there is an Executive Committee under the Chairmanship of Defence Secretary. The day-to-day work of the Society is managed by Dir (Trg) & Hony Secy who is assisted by Inspecting Officers, Under Secretary, Sainik Schools Society (Sainik School Cell). The local administration of the school is looked after by a Local Board of Administration whose Chairman is the GoC-in-C of the concerned Command where the Sainik School is located. SPI After NDA was established at Khadakwasla, Pune in 1954, it was observed that though NDA was in Maharashtra, Maharashtra was not in NDA as the number of Maharashtrian boys getting in to NDA was minuscule. The Government of Maharashtra decided to form a committee to study the issue in depth and suggest the solutions and methods that could address this issue. Accordingly a committee was formed under the chairmanship of Lt Gen SPP Thorat, (Retd), Kirti Chakra, Padmashree, DSO, D’Lit. On the recommendations of the committee the unique Services Preparatory Institute was established at Aurangabad in 1977 with the aim of preparing boys academically, mentally and physically for entry into the National Defence Academy and other Defence Academies.
