The Government of India offers the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) to support meritorious students from economically weaker families and help them continue their education from Class 9 to Class 12. Important Update: Extended Deadline * Deadline for submission of online regular application form for NMMS Exam 2026-27: Extended up to 21-10-2026 Key Highlights: * Scholarship: ₹12, 000 per year * Equivalent Support: ₹1, 000 per month * Duration: 4 Years — Classes 9, 10, 11 & 12 * Total Support: Up to ₹48, 000 * Payment: Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the student's bank account * Selection: State-level competitive examination Eligibility: * Student must be studying in Class 8 * Must be studying in a Government / Government-Aided / Local Body School * Minimum 55% marks in Class 7 (Relaxation for SC/ST students — 50%) * Annual parental income from all sources must not exceed ₹3, 50, 000 * Students of KVs, JNVs and certain residential schools are not eligible as per scheme rules Selection Examination: * MAT – Mental Ability Test * 90 Questions * Reasoning & Analytical Ability * SAT – Scholastic Aptitude Test * 90 Questions * Mathematics, Science, and Social Science * Total: 180 Questions * State examination dates are announced separately by the respective State/UT authorities. Important: NMMSS selection is through the examination conducted by the respective State/UT.
